Have you ever been watching wrestling on the telly as you do and come to the stark realization how empty life is when you enter a room without your own custom theme song playing, busting everybody's eardrums? Well, today I got you. I'm going to show you how to create a Billboard chart-dropping, Grammy-grabbing theme song customized by you, for you, with the magic of AI in minutes—and the petunia on top: it's 100% free. Zero smackers. Let's go!

My Story

Before we start making a new personalized theme song, I thought I'd show you one version of a theme song that I made for my channel so you can get a taste of what you can create with the tools I'm about to show you. Also, this is my first official video for the channel, and it occurred to me that a theme song topic would be perfect to kick things off because you'll instantly get a ton of details about me and what I envision for the channel in a condensed little nugget. About two years ago, I got really deep into Korean R&B music and it became like 99% of what I listen to. I don't know what it is about it—it just gave me the same vibes of '90s R&B. Anyways, this Korean R&B version of my channel theme song just sounded so good that I literally listened to it on repeat for the last day. Honestly, I feel like you could slip this into my playlist and I would dig it, or it would just fit right in. All right, let's give it a listen.

AI Music Tools Overview

Now let's get into the tools. On the left, we have Claude AI and on the right, we have Suno. Go ahead and create your accounts if you haven't already and log in. Claude, in my opinion, is currently the best AI chatbot out there for the moment. I've tried many different chatbots, and in my experience, Claude's responses have just seemed so much wiser and original for some reason. It's also known to produce better writing than other chatbots, at least from what I've seen on Twitter. I would definitely recommend Claude for any writing-type exercise, especially for this theme song. Of course, you can compare the outputs of different chatbots by putting the same prompt in other chatbots like ChatGPT or Llama and judge for yourself. If I had more time, I would generate the songs in the different chatbots and then you could just pick and choose your favorite lyrics and mash them up, similar to what we're about to do now for a single chatbot.

AI Lyric Tool & Generation

For music generation, we'll be using Suno.com. There are other AI music generators out there like Udio and 11 Labs just revealed their AI music generation product, and they both sound incredible as well, but I've been most familiar with Suno so I thought I'd start there. If you would like to see me explore this exercise with other music generators, let me know in the comments. For lyrics, I use Claude AI. Technically, you can generate lyrics within Suno and it's not bad at all, but for more meticulous control of the lyrics—especially for our use case of a theme song—you want to have much better control so the song is super personalized to you. The reason I was listening to that song on repeat wasn't just because it was catchy; the sound was really amazing, but because every line was customized to real details of my life. It just hits so different. I really hope you can experience that when you generate your song. It's so strange, and I think we're just scratching the surface right now of how personalized music will affect us and our preferences in the future.

How to Generate Lyrics

To generate your song's lyrics, you could take one of the following approaches: give the chatbot specific details of what you would like to include in the song, or use this shortcut—copy and paste an existing description from one of your social media bios and ask the chatbot to use that as the basis of the song. What I did here was I wrote an initial draft of what I wanted for my bio and I didn't even run this through refinement with Claude, so I was surprised that I could generate the song with just my rough bio. I copied that bio into Claude and this was my prompt: "Create lyrics for a theme song for my YouTube channel in the style of a top 40s pop chart topper based on my channel description." I pasted it into Claude along with my prompt and boom—straight off the rip, it nails 90% of the song. One of the reasons why you want to do this outside of Suno is because you have a lot more flexibility to work with the chatbot to massage the lyrics, swap out lines, and brainstorm. Just tell it what you're not happy with and what you'd like to change, and you can also ask for more variations on a particular line. It's just a conversation—you just keep going. Sometimes, it's not perfect and you'll be going back and forth with a chatbot and it's not generating what you want, so in those cases, like I had to do here, I had to interject and actually use my brain to come up with lyrics. I'd say I did like 10% of modifying the lyrics and I still wasn't fully happy with it yet. I want to iterate on it, but I had to get this video out. Overall, though, it's just so impressive what these chatbots can do right off the rip and so quickly.

AI Music Generation

Now for the fun part: music generation. You're going to go into Suno and go to create, turn on custom mode, and custom mode allows you to input your own lyrics and have a lot more control. Paste in the lyrics, choose a style of music (I tried Electro Swing), and watch how fast this is. In 20 seconds, it generated two songs. Let's give them a listen. [Music and commentary on results]

Iteration & Style

As you can see, I went through a couple of generations to get to the song I showed at the beginning. You do have to iterate—it's hit or miss sometimes. The song I showed you at the beginning took maybe eight generations before I hit on that. Just before we go, I wanted to talk briefly about how revolutionary this technology is. I was asking myself: if I wanted to create a song like this before AI existed, how much would this cost me? I asked another favorite chat bot of mine, Perplexity, this exact question. I have a paid subscription to Perplexity because I think it has the best user experience for search so far, and it's become an essential tool in my digital nomad toolkit. Highly recommend it for anyone who does a lot of searching and wants to save time. The reason is it has so much more of an in-depth and thorough search experience. You can see the steps that the AI is taking, use different chat models for your search assistant, and verify the data. It blows my mind that we can produce a really high-quality sounding song in 20 seconds, and the typical cost of a hit song is over a million dollars. Just an interesting factoid before we wrap up.
